Getting Lasik surgery, a story of frustration and chatbots!

Hello, my name is Ray Grantham. I wanted to briefly share a story of frustration and how it ultimately lead to a solution I could not have even dreamed of.

How many of you have gone to an appointment at a dentist, doctors office or even to get a non-evasive procedure like Lasik and they hand you this multi-page packet, clipboard and pen? Everyone I would assume.

So, you go to sit down in a noisy waiting area, attempting to fish out whatever relevant documents (Drivers license, etc) are required. More often than not, you are reading “the fine print” of a consent form or some “terms of agreement” of which you need to sign… -> sign here and flipping the pages, -> sign here. Finally, you hand over the packet with the hope that the person, manually entering your information, does not transcribe the spelling of your last name, street address, etc….

This was my experience when I went to get Lasik surgery. My anxiety was very high already, but trying to read and comprehend exactly what I’m consenting to was impossibly frustrating. The loud looping self promotion video and that kid kicking the chair behind me did not help!

This was my moment of eureka! I asked to see the manager and proceeded to share my helpful thought(s). — Why not send me a (onboarding or pre-appointment) link allowing me to fill out these documents online, before I get to the place of business? I mean, they have to send me an email to confirm my appointment anyway, right!? Thus eliminating the anxiety, frustration, margin for error when my hand written information is manually entered and the ability to read and understand the “fine print” of which I need to consent to.

Seems like a no brainer! Which is why I decided to start Tivity Marketing – Bots for Businesses.
